The west tip of Cornwall has more hours of sunshine than many southern areas, and Woodlands is an ideal centre for quiet relaxation or for exploring the natural scenic beauty and characteristic towns and villages of Cornwall.
About half a mile away from Woodlands, the centre of St. Agnes offers several cafés, restaurants, pubs, craft shops, surf shops and galleries. Its free car parking makes it an attractive place for day-trippers and local shopping. On the edge of town, heading towards Truro, the free museum is well worth a visit.
St Agnes was once an important part of the tin and copper mining industries in Cornwall, and many of the old engine houses and mine workings can be seen. Much of the television series, Poldark, was filmed around this area. Not far away at Blue Hills at Trevellas Porth, you can visit the last remaining tin streaming works.
There are many pleasant walks along the coastal footpaths and inland. Along the sandy beaches and rugged cliffs turtles, sunfish, porpoises and dolphins can sometimes be seen, as well as the more common seals and seabirds. At 628 feet high St Agnes Beacon provides a fantastic view from coast to coast. See Circular walks around St Agnes.
About 350 yards from Woodlands and just below the town is Trevaunance Cove. The beach is mainly shingle at high tide but at other times it is a popular sandy beach suitable for both families and surfers.
There are rock pools and caves to be explored. Beach huts and a café with surfboard and wet suit hire are nearby, and RNLI lifeguards are present from mid-May until the end of September.
