Cornwall has some of the finest beaches in the UK and in Europe.
Remember that beach safety is important. Smaller beaches have lifeguards, while on larger ones they only operate near the entrances to the beach. Obey them - they do know what they are talking about. Don't get cut off by the tide; on a flat beach it can rush up in minutes and leave you cut off from your exit. Tide tables can be found online at Admiralty Easy Tide.
On Chapel Porth and Porthtowan beaches, and some other beaches around Cornwall, dogs are banned between Easter Day and 1st October. Elsewhere please keep your dogs under control and clean up appropriately.
Trevaunance cove is only a few hundred yards from Woodlands. Although on the small side it offers a sandy beach, rock pools and surfing.
There is a lifeguard during the season. Dogs are permitted, but must be kept on a lead in the high season.
The beach is supported by a range of beach shops, a restaurant and craft shops with a pub and toilets nearby.
Perranporth (4 miles) offers miles of sandy beach with sections catering to most tastes and activities. Busy on accessible parts. St. Piran's Oratory is near here amongst the dunes, but not so easy to find.
Chapel Porth (1-2 miles) National Trust - Small and bouldery at high tide - extending to miles of wet sand at low tide, but understand the tide table. See if you can find the chapel and the story that goes with it.
Porthtowan (3 miles) Bigger, busier, and sandier with level access, Porthtowan is a favourite for families and surfers.
Newquay (12 miles) Four beaches with a world-wide reputation - ideal for sun worshippers, families and surfers. Excellent facilities.
Hayle (18 miles) 3 miles of sand and dunes - and beach huts
